Frequently Asked Test Questions About The GED Exam

Do I have to take all 4 subjects at once?
No! You can study for and take one subject at a time. That way you can focus and do your best. It's also easier to pay for one at a time! If you want to take two, three, or all four tests at the same time, you can do that too. It's your choice.

Is the test available in languages other than English?

Yes, the GED test is also available in Spanish, but states have different rules about the Spanish test. In South Carolina and South Dakota, the Spanish test isn't allowed. Your state may have other policies about the GED test. Check your state's policies here.

How much is the test?
Cost varies by state, and in California the costs range from $30 - $35 per subject, depending on where you test.  If you don't pass on your first try? Don't worry.   The Test center will help pay for your retakes!   You can get up to $20 off two retakes per subject (and your state may give you more). Learn more about discounted retakes.

What's the discounted retake all about?
If you take a GED test and don't pass it, don't worry. We'll give you $20 off your next two retakes on that test subject. Your state may give you more! With discounted retakes, you can relax about the money, and focus on the studying.

How do I know if I passed?
To pass the GED test, you must get at least 150 points on each of the 4 subjects. To get the GED with Honors score, you must score at least 170 points. You can earn GED with Honors on just one subject or all four. Your transcript will show how you scored on each part so employers and colleges know more about your strengths.

Will colleges and employers accept my GED transcript?
Yes! The GED testing program has been around for more than 70 years and is the most recognized high school equivalency program. In fact, most colleges and employers in the U.S. accept the GED transcript.

Can I retake the test if I don't pass?

Yes. You can retake the test right away, if your state doesn't have any policies about waiting. After you take a subject 3 times, you have to wait 60 days before retesting. But then you can keep trying.

If you test in Spanish, you can take the test 2 times before you have to wait 60 days. After the 60 days, you can keep trying.
